Party leaders focus on climate plans following Ontario’s deadly storm

The Ontario party leaders were highlighting their climate plans after Ontario’s deadly storm.
NDP, Liberal and Green Parties were accusing PC Leader Doug Ford of being a climate change denier after calling this weekend’s storm a “once in a lifetime storm.”
“Doug Ford likes to talk about these things like it was a ‘once in a lifetime storm.’ You know what that tells me? That tells me in essence that Doug Ford is a climate change denier,” Del Duca said.
Ford said his party is investing in electric vehicle manufacturing and electric arc furnaces, like Dofasco in Hamilton.
The Green Party which is reaching for net-zero emissions by 2045 says building highways to fight climate change isn’t a real plan.
“If Mr. Ford believes in climate change then why is he systematically dismantling all the climate action plans in Ontario?” Schreiner said.
After Saturday’s storm that left a trail of destruction and ten dead, the NDP say they would fix the disaster relief program while the liberals earmarked $250 million to prepare for extreme weather.
Despite Ford leading in the polls, the NDP and Liberals both believe they could deny a Progressive Conservative majority.
