Pan Am precinct progress meeting

Residents wondering about the status of the Pan Am stadium and precinct in Hamilton had a chance to ask some questions and hear an update on the progress at a meeting Thursday night.

It was held at Prince of Wales school — and it was also an opportunity for residents in ward three to hear from their newly appointed councillor Bob Morrow — who will be the local councillor until the municipal election. At Thursday night’s meeting, city officials said the Pan Am stadium is still two weeks behind — and added contractors now have crews working two shifts a day to try and get caught up for the June 30th deadline. And they remain optimistic about reaching that goal. They also confirmed baseball will remain at Scott Park. And they said they know there are issues to deal with when it comes to parking.

Paul Johnson is the director of neighbourhood strategies.   “The bottom line is we can’t put park on site in any more capacity than we have already. We will be building parking with the community centre as well to make sure that people can park on-site when they’re coming for recreation. And obviously there will be some parking at the stadium, but not much.”

The meeting was also a chance for people who live in the neighbourhood to give their feedback and thoughts on what`s happening with the project — and what else they’d like to see.
