They’ve crunched the numbers and the province says the Pan Am and Parapan Am games came in “within” the 2.4 billion dollar budget. But at the same time, it says the final tally isn’t complete. 53 executives are sharing 5.7 million dollars in bonuses for keeping the games within budget but critics wonder if the government set the budget high so that executives could meet it.

The province and the T.O. 2015 organizing committee say they found tens of millions of dollars in savings compared to the budget projections in March. The number so far is 2.4 billion. But that’s not the official total. It’s not available yet.

The government says there were major savings in security measures. 54 million dollars. And another 23 million in transportation savings. Ticket sales were down. Only 1.1 million were sold. The opposition says it’s obvious that played a roll in the savings.

Critics wonder if the the province set the budget too high on purpose so executives could meet it.

Organizers say they delivered the most successful games ever. There isn’t one specific way they measure this achievement, but say feedback from athletes, spectators and coaches helped lead them to this statement.
