Hamilton police are investigating after shots were fired near the home of a 14-year-old boy who was assaulted by a group of people at Gage Park last weekend.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the area of Martha St. and Grimsby Ave. for reports of gun shots.

Witnesses directed police to where they believed the sounds of the gun fire came from and officers located multiple shell casings from a small caliber gun.

No one was injured in the shooting and police have not said if the incident was targeted.

The mother of the teen involved in the brawl at Gage Park, says she believes her family’s home was targeted as retaliation for making the incident public.

Detectives on scene say it appears four to five people were involved in the shooting. However, it is not yet clear if they were shooting at the townhouse complex or at each other.

Video from the scene appears to show officers investigating bullet holes in the side of one of the homes.
