Ornge bringing new critical care ambulance base to Hamilton

Ontario’s provider of air ambulances and critical care transport services will be opening a new critical care land ambulance base in Hamilton.
In the announcement released Tuesday, Ornge describes the base as a “significant investment in critical care patient transport services”.

The program provides relief for local hospitals as it reduces the need for escort staff from hospitals for critical transfers.
Additionally, the non-profit organization is looking to expand air ambulance services to more rural and remote areas.

Ornge Hamilton will be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week and will be the fifth to be opened in the province.
The base will be co-located with CritiCall Ontario, the province’s 24-hour emergency consultation and referral service for hospital physicians, at 1725 Upper James St.
Construction for a three-bay ambulance garage is set to begin soon, with a target open date set for this fall.
