Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has identified a missing boater whose body was found in Lake Erie.

Police say 48-year-old David Doyle, of Hamilton, had gone fishing around 11 a.m. last Thursday in a small boat off the shoreline of Featherstone Park.

About an hour later, a friend checked the lake through a telescope from shore and noticed the boat was empty.

The Haldimand County OPP Marine Unit, Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and an OPP helicopter searched the area and located the unoccupied vessel.

Police continued their search over the weekend and discovered his body in the waters just east of the park around 3 p.m. Sunday.

“Victim Services of Haldimand-Norfolk have been involved and are assisting to help the family during this difficult time,” said OPP in a news release.

Police are asking for anyone who may have any information to assist with the investigation to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
