OPP officer injured after dog attack near Hamilton QEW

An Ontario Provincial Police officer has minor injuries after a bulldog attacked her while she was responding to a complaint near the Red Hill Valley Parkway in Hamilton early Monday morning.

Police say a male and female officer responded around 6:30 a.m. to the area of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and the QEW Toronto-bound ramp following reports of pedestrians on the highway.

OPP say the female officer sustained minor injuries after a large, aggressive dog charged at her.

She then shot the dog twice, but it eventually ran away.

City of Hamilton Animal Services were called to the area around 11 a.m. to bring the canine – believed to be an American bulldog – to a veterinarian clinic.

No charges have been laid at this time.

OPP say they are continuing to investigate.
