Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver who went the wrong way on the QEW Fort-Erie near Oakville Wednesday evening.
They say Burlington officers responded to reports of a grey sedan driving the wrong way on the highway near Third Line at around 7:13 p.m.
Investigators say the sedan was originally driving in the correct direction before hitting a tractor trailer near Third Line, leaving its bumper and licence plate at the scene.
The sedan then drove in the wrong direction on the shoulder for around 2 km before exiting at Kerr Street.
Police say they found the vehicle in a parking lot near Dorval Drive and Kerr Street in Oakville.
Detectives identified and found the 26-year-old man from Burlington and charged him with offences including operation of a vehicle while impaired, dangerous operation and failing to stop after an accident.
Officers say there were no injuries as a result of the “irresponsible behaviour.”
The driver was released on an undertaking, and is expecting to appear at a Milton courthouse on May 4.
