The provincial budget and what it means for you.

While Ontarian’s will be paying more for some items, there are also savings to be had.

Students from low income families will be the big winners from this years budget. The Ontario government is making it more affordable to go to university and college. Students who’s parents make a total of $50 000 or less won’t be saddled with student loans and can attend post secondary schooling for free. For students who’s parents make $83 000 or less many will receive up front grant money to cover the cost.

Ontario drivers and home owners pocket books will be hurt by the Liberals cap and trade program. The price of gas is going up just over 4 cents a litre. It will cost the average person $8 more a month to drive and to heat your house with natural gas it will cost you about $5 more a month. But you won’t have to pay that pesky $30 Drive Clean charge every 7 years.

In terms of health care it’s going to cost you less to park at Ontario’s hospitals. Low income seniors will pay less for drugs while middle income seniors will pay a bit more and there will be a free shingles vaccine for seniors between 65 and 70 years old.
