Ontario to give update on capacity of healthcare system amid Omicron

Ontario’s health minister will provide an update on the capacity of the province’s health-care system as it deals with the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Christine Elliott will speak on the issue at 12:30 p.m., alongside Matthew Anderson, the CEO of Ontario Health.
On Tuesday, the province reported 3,220 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and 477 people in intensive care.
There are currently 250 patients on ventilators due to COVID-19.
Elliott says the province will now distinguish between people admitted to hospital due to a COVID-19 infection and those who are admitted for other reasons and test positive for COVID-19.
She says of the current hospitalizations, 54 per cent were admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 and 46 per cent tested positive after being admitted for other reasons.
