Ontario is offering residents 80 and older the chance to get a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine earlier than expected.

Most Ontarians in that age group will be able to rebook their second vaccine appointment at a shorter interval through the online portal starting 8 a.m. Monday.

Ontario had been waiting 16 weeks between appointments.

Those 70 and older will be eligible for their second shot in mid-June.

After that, residents will become eligible for second doses based on when they received their first.

Residents don’t have to change their appointment and will keep their originally scheduled date if they make a change.

Halton residents 80 and older will have to wait until Wednesday if they want to change their appointment.

The region uses its own COVID-19 vaccine booking system.
