Ontario reports 834 new COVID-19 cases, five new deaths

Ontario is reporting 834 new cases of COVID-19 and five new deaths.

This as the province completed 30,010 tests with another 33,906 backlogged.

Another 773 cases were marked as resolved. Overall, 85.5 per cent of the reported cases in the province are resolved.

Toronto, Peel, York and Ottawa still lead in new cases. These four regions are under additional public health restrictions, put in by the province earlier this month.

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 remained unchanged at 312. The number of people in ICU at 71, down from 75 on Thursday. Of those, 51 are on ventilators.

Here’s how the numbers break down in our region:

Haldimand-Norfolk: 3 new cases, 31 active cases

Brant: 1 new case, 25 active cases

Niagara: 12 new cases, 95 active cases, 1 new death, 2 in hospital

Halton: 12 new cases, 233 active cases, 9 in hospital

Hamilton: 33 new cases, 169 active cases, 3 in hospital

 

Another 92 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the province’s schools.

An outbreak was reported at Hamilton’s St. Marguerite d’Youville Elementary School.
