Ontario reports 2,093 COVID-19 cases and 56 deaths

Ontario reported 2,093 cases of COVID-19 and 56 deaths on Thursday.

The numbers come as the province completed 64,664 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were taken, is 3.3 per cent.

Another 11,910 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered since Wednesday’s report. In total, 317,240 total doses have been given.

But the province says it made a mistake when reporting the number of completed vaccinations, which is the number of people that have received the required two shots of either the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

The province was reporting this number to be about 96,000 but an email from the Ministry of Health says officials “provided data on the number of doses administered to achieve full vaccination.” That means the number is actually half of what was being reported.

The numbers has been fixed for Thursday’s update and shows 55,286 people have been fully vaccinated.

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario is down to 1,338. There are 358 in ICU with 276 of them on ventilators.

Another 2,491 cases of the virus have been marked as resolved.
