Ontario reports 1,250 COVID-19 cases and 22 deaths

Ontario reported 1,250 cases of COVID-19 and 22 deaths on Friday, as Health Canada is set to announce the approval of a fourth vaccine.

The numbers come as the province completed 64,748 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were performed, is 2.3 per cent.

Another 35,886 vaccine doses have been given since the last provincial report. In total, 820,714 doses have been administered.

There are 269,063 people who have received both doses and are fully vaccinated.

Another 1,159 cases have been marked as resolved.

Halton

• 9,655 total cases — up 27 from Thursday

Niagara

• 8,690 total cases — up 21 from Thursday
• 8,150 resolved cases
• 171 active cases
• 369 deaths
• 11,375 vaccine doses given

Haldimand-Norfolk

• 1,449 total cases — up nine from Thursday
• 1,368 resolved cases
• 37 active cases
• 39 deaths
• 6,474 vaccine doses given; 1,580 people fully vaccinated

The province is reporting the COVID-19 death toll at 7,046 people.

The number of cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, first reported in the U.K., jumped from 644 to 799 cases.

There are still 31 cases of the B.1.351 strain first reported in South Africa.

The number of cases of the P.1 strain, first reported in Brazil, remains steady at three.

There are 643 people in hospital, down slightly from the 649 patients reported on Thursday.

Of those, 280 are in intensive care and 183 of those are on ventilators.
