Ontario’s minimum wage is set to increase Oct. 1, rising to $17.95 an hour, raising it from the current wage of $17.60 per hour.

Ontario says the wage is boosted annually based on the province’s Consumer Price Index, which is a measure of inflation.

The province says with the increase, Ontario will have one of the highest minimum wages in the country.

After the increase, Ontario will sit behind British Columbia, Yukon and Nunavut in highest minimum wages.

The Ontario Living Wage Network says a living wage in the Greater Toronto Area is closer to $27.20 an hour.

The Government of Canada raised its federal minimum wage to $18.15 Wednesday.
