An Ontario migrant worker is receiving more than $23,000 in damages after Ontario’s Human Rights Tribunal ruled that he suffered racial abuse.

The tribunal says St. Lucian migrant worker Adrian Monrose, was subjected to racial slurs while working for Double Diamond Acres Limited in Kingsville. Monrose says he and other workers were called “monkeys”, and he was fired after standing up to the name-calling.

The company has been ordered to pay Monrose $23,500 in damages, and must hire an expert to develop a human rights and anti-discrimination policy within 120 days.
