Hamilton police say a threat made online about a shooting at a local school has been deemed “not credible.”

A citizen contacted police Tuesday morning after they spotted the alleged threat on the popular website Reddit.

The post claimed a 17 year old was going to be “shooting up” a school, “killing as many people as possible.” The threat went on to say, “…there’s nothing that can be done to stop me.”

Hamilton police were notified about an online threat of a school shooting on the website Reddit.

After interviewing the owner of the account, police have determined they were hacked.

Cst. Jerome Stewart said investigators believe the youth who owns the social media account was not the person who posted the threat.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are still trying to determine who is responsible for the post.

Stewart says school liaison officers in the area were made aware of the post but no additional officers were sent to any schools in relation to the threat.

Anyone with information that could help detectives with the investigation is asked to contact Hamilton police.
