Hamilton police are warning communities of distraction thefts, after two separate incidents involving women led to the arrest of one, and the search for another.

Officers say thefts that involved deceptive interactions led to the theft of the victim’s jewelery.

Investigators are asking for public help to find 40-year-old Florentina Miclescu Paun, who they say is in connection with three distraction thefts since September.

They did not say where Paun is from or where she lives.

In a separate investigation, police arrested 36-year-old Victoria Miclescu from Scarborough in connection with five distraction theft incidents on Hamilton Mountain that were reported on Oct. 24.

Detectives say Misclescu approached people — primarily seniors — for directions or prayers, before trying to put jewelery on them as a distraction.

Misclescu is facing charges including theft under $5,000 and four counts of theft with intent to steal under $5,000.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-546-2955.

Information can also be given anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
