A date has been announced for a coroner’s inquest into the death of a man who was shot and killed by Niagara police in 2021.
Martin Gordyn, 27, died on Jan. 5, 2021 following an interaction with Niagara police. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest into his death is mandatory.
Gordyn had a lengthy criminal history that involved assault, drugs, and several stolen vehicles.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Gorydn’s death. The jury may also make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The seven-day inquest has been scheduled for Dec. 1, at 9:30 a.m., which will hear from approximately seven witnesses.
