A Hamilton man was arrested after a search warrant was executed at a magic mushroom shop in central Hamilton Friday.

Officers executed a search warrant at the Shroomyz Magic Mushroom Dispensary at 1353 Main St. East as part of an investigation.

They arrested 36-year-old Michael Pinter without incident, and have charged him with possessing Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) for the purpose of trafficking, and for possessing proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Police say they seized around over two kilograms of psilocybin products, along with over $1,200 in Canadian currency they believe to be proceeds of crime.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is around $12,440.

The store was hit by a a driver in a black Honda Civic earlier in August, and suffered an early morning explosion in June which caused $80,000 in damages.

This is not the first time that Hamilton police have shut down businesses in the city for allegedly illegally selling psilocybin.

In 2023, officers had closed “the Mushroom Cabinet” and a different Shroomyz location, after searches led to the seizure of several kilograms of illicit drugs.

Last February, authorities had pulled the plug on three magic mushroom shops: Fun Guys, Shroom Godz, and another Shroomyz location.

Searches at those businesses led to the seizure of over $100,000 in Psilocybin products.

Hamilton police says, “it remains committed to disrupting the illegal drug trade and protecting the safety of our community.”
