OLG, MGE reach agreement to allow new casino operators in Niagara

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and MGE Niagara Entertainment Inc. have reached an agreement to allow more casino operators to enter the Niagara region’s gaming market.

This major milestone in the province’s Destination Niagara Strategy will bring new investment to the region, creating more good-paying jobs and growing Ontario’s economy.

“Niagara has long been one of Ontario’s premier tourism destinations and we’re working to unlock its full potential and attract more visitors and investment for decades to come,” says Doug Downey, interim minister of tourism, culture and gaming.

As part of the agreement, MGE has agreed to remove its exclusivity rights within the Niagara Gaming Bundle. This will allow additional gaming and entertainment opportunities in the region for new operators.

MGE will continue to operate Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara on behalf of OLG.

Meanwhile OLG is launching a procurement process later this year to o find potential new gaming operators.

This agreement will create new, world-class attractions, boost local arts and culture and improve the region’s transportation network.

It aims to attract 25 million annual visitors and double the region’s tourism impact, generating an additional $3 billion for Ontario’s GDP every year.

As part of the strategy, Niagara Parks also continues to enhance tourism through some key initiatives including an Indigenous art exhibit and redeveloping the historic Toronto Power Generating Station.
