Officials seek answers behind Israeli detainment of Canadian citizens

The Israeli military has still not provided an official explanation as to why it detained and removed several Canadian citizens from their homes in the Gaza strip last week.

Relatives of Ahmed Alagha say he and his two sons were taken into custody by Israeli forces on Feb. 8 following an early morning search of their home just outside of Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza.

All three members of the Alagha family have Canadian citizenship.

While the Israel Defense Forces have confirmed it has taken several people into custody, it would not provide the exact number or why.

Foreign affairs minister Mélanie Joly says she has been in touch with her Israeli counterparts about the case and that her parliamentary secretary has contacted the Alagha family.

However, a member of the Alagha family says they have received no information from either Israeli, Canadian or American officials as of yet.
