Oakville passes bylaw regarding protests and places of worship

Oakville City Council unanimously passed a bylaw motion last night regarding public demonstrations nearby places of worship.
The bylaw would require people to stay at least 50 metres away from places of worship when demonstrating or protesting.
In the council meeting Oakville Mayor Rob Burton said: “I want to note that Oakville demonstrations and protests have been civil, or at least peaceful. And second, that the police, far from suppressing demonstrations and protests, they have supported them. And they’ve done that no matter what organization the chief might belong to.”
A meeting last Thursday was adjourned after a dispute between Mayor Burton and a delegate.
