Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hamilton tests positive for COVID-19

Hamilton public health has confirmed a dialysis nurse at St. Joseph’s hospital has tested positive for COVID-19.

The nurse, who lives in Hamilton, worked their last shift on Friday March 20 at the Charlton Campus dialysis unit. The nurse did not have any symptoms while at work.

On Saturday March 21, the nurse began to experience symptoms at home and was told not to return to work. They were tested on Wednesday March 25 and a positive result was confirmed that evening.

The nurse is said to be experiencing mild symptoms and is in self-isolation at home.

Hamilton public health is working with St. Joseph’s Healthcare and  Hamilton Health Sciences’ General Hospital to determine who the nurse had been in contact with. Public health will notify any patients who were in direct contact with the nurse.

There are currently 43 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hamilton.
