Norfolk County OPP are investigating the murder of a woman in Simcoe on Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Head Street South shortly after 10:30 a.m. for a 911 call and found the deceased woman.
She has been identified as 71-year-old Barbara Morgan of Simcoe. A postmortem examination will be conducted Monday.
Neighbours said Morgan lived with a man, who may have been staying in her basement.
The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit is investigating under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto.
“Preliminary information suggests this is an isolated incident, with no indication of a broader threat,” said Const. Ed Sanchuk with Norfolk OPP. “However, police continue to investigate and are actively monitoring the situation. While there is no known risk to the wider community at this time, members of the public are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to police as a precaution.
Police say there is no word yet on how Morgan died, but they say there is no threat to public safety.
The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.
