In light of the inclement weather headed to the region, members of Norfolk County OPP have cancelled their information session about ‘grandparents scams’.

The information session was planned for this evening at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds but will now be rescheduled.

A ‘grandparent scam’ is when a senior is scammed out of thousands of dollars by someone pretending to be their grandchild, in trouble, and needing financial help.

Police are spreading awareness as the frequency of these scams increase.

Recently, one couple in Hamilton lost $8,000 after falling victim to an elaborate scheme where someone claimed to be their grandchild in legal trouble and needing funds.
