A fire broke out at a building in Stoney Creek Friday just after midnight, which caused an estimated $10,000 in damages, but luckily no one was injured.

Hamilton firefighters responded to a fire at a large commercial building at 550 Seaman St., where they located a fire inside of an HVAC filter system in the rear of the building.

Response teams reported smoke showing from the outside, and the building had been evacuated.

They say the fire was contained to the unit and was quickly extinguished.

They report ventilation of smoke and overhaul was then completed.

Hamilton Fire Department Asst. Deputy Chief Shawn De Jager said the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical failure of the unit.
