Niagara police say the discovery of a woman’s body at Charles Daley Park in Lincoln is being treated as suspicious, and homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.
Detectives say the woman’s body was found with traumatic injuries on Tuesday morning — they’re not specifying what exactly those injuries are.
At the time of the discovery, it was unclear if this incident was being considered suspicious by police. Police are currently in the process of identifying the victim as they work to figure out what happened.
They are now trying to identify the woman. She’s believed to be between 25-40 years old, and is described as being between 5’3″ and 5’5″ tall. Police say she weighs approximately 130-150 lbs, has long curly dark hair, and may be of South Asian descent.
She was found wearing a pink zip-up hoodie, light blue jeans, a black shirt, grey socks, and gold hoop earrings.
Authorities note that they have checked their missing person files.
“The description of the female does not fit any outstanding missing persons that we have in Niagara. We are working with our partner agencies and looking to – for them to canvas their outstanding missing person files to help us identify the female,” said Mike Tripp, inspector with Niagara police.
Charles Daley park consists of multiple roadways, a large parking lot, some open grassy areas and some forested areas as well. It is also located right next to Lake Ontario.
Police say someone was walking in the park when they discovered the body and they called police. But detectives could not share exactly where the body was found in the park.
“The specific location of where the female was found is something that we are going to hold back at this point in time as part of the ongoing investigation,” said Insp. Tripp.
Officers say the investigation is in its early stages, but they have received information from the public.
“We’ve received a number of tips or information supplied by members of the public that we are currently going through and investigating, and hopefully we will be able to supply some more information in the future,” said Insp. Tripp.
Now, until the post-mortem examination is complete, authorities are not classifying the female’s death as a homicide. It is just suspicious at this point.
Officers have not identified any suspects. This means investigators can’t confirm whether her death was targeted or random.
Detectives are asking everyone who was at Charles Daley Park between 11 a.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday to contact them.
This is a developing story. More to come.
