The Niagara Regional Police sergeant who shot a fellow officer told the court today he was stunned when his colleague suddenly began assaulting him after a brief confrontation.

Sergeant Shane Donovan told the court that the situation quickly became a matter of life or death and that’s when he decided to shoot Constable Nathan Parker.
