Niagara police seek suspect for assault, firearm offences in Welland

Niagara police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect for assault and firearm offences in Welland.

Officers say they responded to a disturbance report at a resident located in the area of Kottmeier Rd. in Thorold around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, police learned an assault took place and that the suspect had fled the scene, potentially on foot.

Police say a loaded handgun that was being carried by the suspect was recovered from the scene.

Juan Carlos Castro, 28, of Niagara Falls is currently wanted for the criminal code offences of:

• Assault
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Officers say this investigation is in its early stages and additional charges are expected.

Castro is described as a man, Black, five-foot-10, 170 lbs., braided medium length black hair and is known to wear glasses.

He was last seen wearing a white jacket, sweater and black pants.

Police say due to the recovery of a firearm, Castro may be armed and should not be approached.
