Niagara police are thanking a member of the public for returning a bag of stolen money.

Earlier last week, authorities said a man who was shopping inside the Welland Walmart set his bag down and mistakenly left it behind — along with $5,000 inside of it.

Investigators released several photos of two suspects they believed to be responsible for taking the bag.

On Dec. 28, a man showed up at the police station in Welland with the missing bag and money.

He told police that the women were Mexican nationals who were temporarily staying with him.
After he caught wind of the investigation, he found the missing bag in his home and decided to turn it in.

Authorities are thanking the man for his honesty and integrity in returning the bag.

At this time, police say there are no outstanding warrants for either of the women involved in the matter.

Police say the money will remain in their custody while they arrange to return it to its rightful owner.
