Niagara police are still investigating after a woman’s body was found inside a Smithville home on April 26.

There are very few details from police as to what exactly happened in the home on Lindan Street that Friday morning, which is leaving many people who live in the area feeling uneasy.

“We saw the police show up Friday, I got home from work around four and they were there. A couple of hours later the forensic unit showed up. So we knew it was something very serious,” neighbour Jessica Parker said.

On Monday, there hadn’t been any update on the deceased woman’s age or if she lived in the home, and no information had been provided from police about who found her.

However, on Thursday an update from police confirmed the woman who was killed was 62-years-old.

“It was shocking, we expected it was just the death of an elderly person, but when forensics showed up we knew it was something more serious. When police came around they said it was a homicide but gave up no details,” Parker said.

Police say no arrests have been made, but this is not believed to be a random act of violence.

“We certainly understand and share the community’s concern,” police said in an update.

“Our Homicide detectives are working to identify the person responsible while ensuring that the integrity of the investigation is not compromised.”
