Niagara police investigate damage to Pride flag at Lincoln church

Niagara police are investigating after a Pride flag at a church in Lincoln was torn down and damaged this past weekend.

Police say both the Pride flag and Canadian flag at Trinity United Church were found on the ground Sunday morning. The rope for the flagpole had been cut and the Pride flag was also ripped up.

Video footage obtained by police from Saturday night shows five people on the property of Trinity United Church around 10 p.m. Three members of this group can be seen disturbing the flagpole.

Police say they continue to analyze the video footage and this is being treated as a hate-based incident.

The suspect’s identities are still unknown at this time.
