Niagara police identify student who posted rumor of violence at school

Niagara police have found the 14-year-old student who admitted to publishing a social media post that caused concern in local schools.

A Snapchat post circulated Wednesday claiming a teenage boy was threatening to stab students.

Investigators have learned a 14-year-old high school student created the post after hearing a rumor from a friend about an individual planning to stab students.

The friend, a 16-year-old high school student, alleged to have heard the unconfirmed rumor.

Officers said no arrests are expected at this time.

Police from the Welland-Port Colborne district and the Cyber Crime Unit continue to investigate.

They said there is currently no threat to the public or schools.
