Niagara Regional Police are focusing their attention on speeding and distracted driving on rural roads.

This comes after several serious accidents on Niagara’s rural roads. In the past four days, Niagara Police have handed out 75 tickets to distracted drivers or those driving above the speed limit. Police say many of the drivers charged were unaware it is illegal to use a cell phone even when stopped at a red light.

Officers say they will continue their efforts to educate people on safe driving on rural streets.
