Niagara police arrested a Toronto man Tuesday as part of an investigation into the sale of illicit substances in the Niagara region.

Officers say at around 4:20 p.m., a man was seen exhibiting behaviour “consistent with the illegal trafficking of drugs.”

With help from the Niagara Parks Police Service, detectives conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by the man where he was then arrested.

Investigators say a search incident to arrest led to them finding:

  • 6.5 grams of fentanyl, with a street value of around $1,300;
  • 8.1 grams of cocaine, with a street value of around $810;
  • 109 hydromorphone tablets, with a street value of around $2,180 and
  • $1,603 in Canadian currency.

The man’s vehicle was also seized and a judicial search warrant has been requested.

Officers have charged 24-year-old Jahquan Ruglass-Brown of Toronto with offences including possessing schedule I substances for the purposes of trafficking, possessing proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000 and for failing to comply with a release order.

Ruglass-Brown attended a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Wednesday.
