Niagara parks police charged a motorist with being impaired behind the wheel after the vehicle left the roadway and ended up in a ditch.

Police say they responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision around 10 p.m. in the area of Marshall Rd. and Niagara River Parkway.

Officers say a red pickup truck travelled east on Marshall Rd., failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed both lanes of the Niagara River Parkway, crashed through the cable safety barrier and ended up partially submerged in the river.

According to a press release, both the male driver and female passenger emerged from the incident unharmed.

The 33-year-old driver from Niagara Falls is facing four impaired driving related charges.
