A Greenpeace activist from Ontario, jailed for weeks in Russia, has been granted bail in St Petersburg.

Paul Ruzycki of Port Colborne and five other activists have been granted bail, after being arrested when Russian paramilitaries stormed their ship in international waters. The group of 30 activists was protesting a drilling rig in the high arctic.

Montrealer Alexandre Paul was also detained and is expected to have his hearing on Thursday. The activists were initially charged with piracy, but that has been downgraded to hooliganism.
