New protocol for transgender bathrooms

Hamilton City Council is considering a new protocol that would allow transgender and gender non-conforming people to use the bathroom they identify with.
Ty Laframboise marched into City Hall Monday to fight for transgender rights. He says that it was because he was forced to be on the women’s wrestling team in university that he gave up the sport.
Laframboise said, “I was unable to share the wrestling mat with the men. I had to wrestle with the women and only enter women’s competitions. I was only able to use the women’s changing rooms which was uncomfortable for the women and myself. ”
Some strongly oppose the idea.
Steven Swets from the Rehoboth United Reformed Church says, “I do not want the biological man walking around the locker room with no clothes on as he strikes up a conversation with my wife. The proposed changes will make thousands of children vunerable and unsafe.”
In the end the Administration Committee of Council voted to enact the transgender protocol.
If city council votes to ratify the protocol Wednesday night, the plan then would be to share it with other Municipalities across the Province.
