New police Task Force in Brantford to focus on gun-related crimes

Since January 2019, the city of Brantford has seen 16 gun related incidents, including the seizure of four loaded handguns, eight shootings incidents and a homicide.

Due to the increased presences of guns in the city, Brantford police have created a new Task Force to focus specifically on getting guns off the streets.

“The creation of this Task Force was absolutely necessary. Elimination of gun violence in our City requires a properly resourced and specialized unit to focus its efforts exclusively on those individuals who pose a threat to the safety of our community. These individuals will have the full attention of the Task Force.”  Chief Geoff Nelson.

Police say the gun related incidents were not random and in most cases the people involved were know to each other. However, the number of incidents could have resulted in innocent bystanders being hurt.
