New funding for Hamilton CAS

The Hamilton Children’s Aid Society will remain open thanks to an additional $1 million in funding from the Ontario government.

Two weeks ago, the agency shut its doors for the first of five planned days before the end of the fiscal year in March. It was in response to a provincial budget cut of $4.7 million over four years which resulted in cut 70 jobs in May. But new so-called “transitional funding” will allow the CAS to cancel the remaining shutdown days. And workers will make up for the hours and services lost due to the first shutdown.
