A date has been set for an inquest into the deaths of five people at the Niagara Detention Centre in Thorold.

Ontario’s ministry of the solicitor general says it will investigate the circumstances around the deaths of Timothy Anderson, Murray Balogh, David Cowe, Michael Croft and Jahrell Lungs.

The inquest will begin Oct. 21 and is expected to hear from 17 witnesses over 15 days.

A jury will then make recommendations to prevent further deaths.

A separate inquest has been announced for the death of Jordan Case, who also died while in custody in Niagara in the same time period. That date has not yet been announced.

All six men died while in custody at the prison between 2018 and 2022.
