New area codes in the Golden Horseshoe

The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area has two more area codes.

Starting today, 437 will be added to the 416 and 647 area codes for Toronto. For the surrounding region 365 will be added into the mix of 905 and 289.

The new area codes were announced last summer to deal with the rising demand for phone numbers. Products like tablets, internet sticks and smartphones are causes for the increased demand.

Each area code holds about 7.5 million possible number combinations.
