An outpour of flowers, teddy bears and signatures fills the front door of an apartment on Melrose Avenue South. A memorial that says rest in peace to Kassie, Khaleesi and Lambeau.
According to neighbours who built the shrine, 40-year-old Kassie Chrysler, 7-year-old Khaleesi and 8-year-old Lambeau McIsaac lived in the unit. Three of the four victims who died following a house fire on the mountain last week. Those who knew them are remembering happy children.
At least 10 people have signed their names on the memorial, including some children who attend Adelaide Hoodless elementary school, the same school Lambeau and Khaleesi attended.
The school says Lambeau was a third grader and Khaleesi was in grade 2. They say flags will be lowered to honour the family. A GoFundMe page with photos was launched this week for support.
Neighbours say the mother and two children were among six people inside the burning home, adding another man was killed and two others survived.
The Ontario fire marshall continues to investigate the cause of the 3-alarm fire at the townhouse unit but says the blaze started on a couch on the lower level while people were on the second floor.
Hamilton police say they are not investigating because there is no criminality involved.
However, fire investigators have said smoke alarms inside the home were not working.
Valery Homes, the property manager of the townhouse complex tells CHCH News a summer inspection found smoking alarms were removed in the unit. They say they reinstalled the alarms and instructed occupants not to remove them again.
