An east end Hamilton neighbourhood is grieving the loss of 3 people, after a house fire late Saturday night at 191 Grenfell street. This is the second fatal fire in as many months in Hamilton.
Jonathan Davidson lives across the street. He ran into the burning building and rescued one man and one woman. “I ran over and got the older man out and convinced the girl to jump down out of the window and then she told me that her mother was in the house. I tried to go in there three times unsuccessfully to get them out. I couldn’t make it in as deep as I wanted to the smoke was just too thick.”
Davidson was taken to the hospital along with the man he rescued and the woman he convinced to jump from the top window.
Following this fire the total number of fire deaths in Hamilton this year has now reached 11. Fire officials are stressing the importance of having an exit plan and working alarms. All five people rented rooms in the one-and-a-half storey home. Officials don’t believe there is anything suspicious about the cause of the fire which is believed to have started near the back of the house.
