National residential school survivors monument to be built on Parliament Hill

The location of the Residential School National Monument was unveiled on Parliament Hill on Tuesday.

A survivor-led committee announced the monument will be built on the west side of the hill. Prime minister Justin Trudeau was in attendance.

Governor General Mary Simon the monument will “stand as a reminder that Indigenous voices are strong. And it stands as another step Canada is taking towards reconciliation.”

The monument was one of the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee.
