Municipal election: Milton’s mayoral race

The municipal election is on October 24, 2022. In Milton, Gord Krantz has been the mayor for almost 42 years. Some residents and other candidates are ready for change.
There are four mayoral candidates in Milton including the incumbent, Gord Krantz. Zee Hamid, Rajiv Dhawan, and Saba Ishaq are running as well.
All of the candidates agree that growth is a major challenge in Milton. Hamid says his first priority is making sure there’s space for small businesses.
“The problem with Milton is that most of the industrial area is eaten up with mega warehouses,” Hamid said.
Krantz and Dhawan want to improve infrastructure. “Milton roads are a little bit narrow so I will make sure that we make the roads wide and it’s safe for children,” Dhawan said.
Many residents CHCH News spoke with say Milton is growing fast, especially the population and they add that there aren’t enough services for the number of people here.
When it comes to expanding public transportation Krantz says, “they have to use it on a regular basis because it’s very expensive to run public transit. I’m all in I’d buy into public transit there’s no question about it but I also buy in to try and keep property tax increases at a minimum.”
Hamid says bringing in more small businesses can help with the cost to improve public transit, “attract more businesses, generate more revenue, shift the tax burden on residential taxpayers to the business community and then use that to build quality of life services and necessary services.”
CHCH News reached out to the fourth candidate Saba Ishaq, but she was not available for an interview today.
