Multiple weekend crashes reported across Niagara region

Over the weekend in the Niagara region, multiple crashes were reported including one early Monday morning on the QEW Fort Erie bound near the Casablanca exit in Grimsby.

A freelancer told CHCH News that emergency crews were dispatched to the area on Sunday at around 11:10 p.m.

Dispatch advised responders that multiple occupants were trapped and one person may be without vital signs.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed that it was a three-vehicle collision.

Officers say six people were transported to hospital, four with minor injuries and two with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Clean-up is underway with no timeline for lanes to reopen.

Meanwhile in Lincoln shortly after 12 a.m., police say emergency crews were dispatched to a report of a car on fire in a cornfield on Eighth Avenue, east of Victoria Avenue.

Officers say a single motor vehicle lost control, entered the south ditch, hit a culvert and ended up in a cornfield.

Investigators say the driver was a 25-year-old Thorold male who was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames and prevent fire from spreading.
