Multi-national meeting amid U.S. tariff threat

Canada will be joining Japan and the European Union in Geneva as part of a multi-national meeting of auto-producing countries.

The meeting planned for Tuesday is expected to plot strategy as U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to impose tariffs on vehicles and auto parts.

Some critics are warning that the potential tariffs of up to 25 per cent, plus retaliatory measures could yield disastrous repercussions.

The predicted fallout may include adding thousands of dollars to the price of a vehicle and job cuts, which will cause significant harm to the global auto industry.

Ottawa has vowed to respond to the auto tariffs with its own countermeasures.
