Movie filming to take place at Sam Lawrence Park next week

Residents who live in the vicinity of Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton are advised that filming for a movie is taking place at the park next week, involving fireworks special effects.

The filming will take place overnight on March 1 and 2 from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will cause alternating road closures on Concession and Kelo Streets.

Ward 8 councillor John-Paul Danko says there’s the possibility of noise with fireworks being used during filming at the park.

Concession St. will be closed from Vola Crt. to Wycliffe Ave., and Kelo St. will be closed from Highcliffe to Knyvet Ave.

Alternating closures mean that while Kelso St. is closed, Concession St. will remain open and vice versa to lessen any impact on people living nearby. Access to surrounding side streets will be allowed for area residents only.

The City of Hamilton’s Creative Industries and Cultural Development, Tourism and Culture Division informed Danko’s office of the filming activity earlier this month.

He says the production crew has requested the use of special effects, including fireworks, and must canvas area residents before they are allowed.

A film permit is only issued when residents have indicated that they have no objections to the road closures or special effects, and the Hamilton Fire Department will then supervise that portion of filming.

The filming will not impact HSR service and access to the Jolley Cut’s westbound traffic will be maintained.
